Cheryl Burke shares life update on 'starting over': 'New beginnings scare me'
"I know life will sort itself out, it always does," the "DWTS" alum shared.
Cheryl Burke is reflecting on her past, living in her present and looking ahead to her future.
The "Dancing with the Stars" alum shared an introspective life update to Instagram earlier this week, posting a video of herself set to Adele's song "Love in the Dark" with text on the screen.
"Life can be so simple but so complicated at the same time," she captioned the post, adding hashtags for "healing journey," "self love journey" and "gratitude attitude."
"I'm 38. I'm a trauma survivor. I'm 5 years sober. I'm recently divorced. I retired from my career last year," Burke wrote in the on-screen text. "I feel like in many ways I'm starting over."
The professional dancer, who announced in November that she was retiring from "DWTS" after 25 seasons, has always been an open book when discussing her sobriety and her divorce from ex-husband Matthew Lawrence.
Burke continued, "While letting go of the past is helpful, new beginnings scare me and are often overwhelming. I try to stay grateful, but sometimes I get stuck in fear."
The two-time Mirrorball trophy champion ended her message by leaning into optimism, writing, "I know life will sort itself out, it always does."
At the end of last year, Burke shared a hopeful post about looking forward to 2023, saying she was "ready to move forward" and "so ready to start the next chapter of my life" and that she would "no longer be defined by my past."
