Christina Aguilera on new Vegas residency: 'Perfect time for me'
The legendary singer on what to expect from the big show.
Christina Aguilera is gearing up to debut her first ever Las Vegas residency Friday, called "Christina Aguilera: The Xperience."
She told People magazine that the residency is coming "at the perfect time" for her following her "Liberation" album and tour, but she's still nervous about opening night.
"I'll totally be nervous, but I think nerves are part of the exciting chemistry and build-up and adrenaline that makes a show that much more impactful," Aguilera said. "It's going to be a really special moment!"
As for why heading to Vegas was the right move, the singer explained that after leaving "The Voice," she needed to find her inner artist again.
"I wanted to get grounded again in my artist body, and that's what I did with 'Liberation,'" she said.
She added, "Moving on to this era, it's just an exciting time of fresh energy. Vegas is coming at the perfect time for me."
"Christina Aguilera: The Xperience" will kick off at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The first 16 shows will take place through June, September and October.
Aguilera follows fellow '90s pop artists Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, who have also had successful Vegas residencies.
Before them, the likes of Celine Dion and others made the Vegas residency a real option for mainstream artists.
Earlier this year, Aguilera also revealed that she's using the lucrative gig to raise money for a good cause.
Aguilera announced that one dollar from every ticket purchased to her show will go to The Shade Tree, a 24-hour accessible emergency shelter in Southern Nevada for women and children in crisis, including those who are victims of domestic violence, human trafficking or both.
The Shade Tree's executive director said in a statement, "Christina not only possesses remarkable talent, she represents strength, perseverance and unapologetic female independence -- characteristics so fitting for our mission to help homeless and abused women regain their own independence."
