'The Crown' star Emma Corrin talks about gender identity, sexuality

Emma Corrin, who stars in "The Crown," is opening up about their gender identity and sexuality.

In an interview with Vogue for the magazine's August issue, Corrin, 26, who plays Princess Diana in the hit Netflix series, says they don't place limits on who they're attracted to when it comes to dating.

"In my mind, gender just isn't something that feels fixed," said Corrin, who uses they/them prounouns. "And I don't know if it ever will be; there might always be some fluidity there for me."

In July 2021, Corrin came out as queer and nonbinary. They also openly shared a photo of themself on Instagram using binders, or compression garments to help ease feelings of body dysmorphia, and spoke about safety awareness when using them.

"Bind safely," they wrote in a post last July. "Find what works for you."

Corrin also spoke to ITV Granada Reports in August 2021, addressing their gender identity journey.

"My journey has been a long one and has still got a long way to go," Corrin said. "I think we are so used to defining ourselves. That's the way society works within these binaries and it's taken me a long time to realize that I exist somewhere in between and I'm still not sure where that is yet."

Corrin told Vogue that using their platform has helped them build a queer and trans community.

"If you have a platform and you're able to use it, that's obviously so important," Corrin said. "I met some incredible people."

In addition to building a queer and trans community and their gender identity, Corrin also spoke about what dating is like and how their family has supported them.

"My first date with a girl, they were like, 'Oh! You're a baby queer!'" they said. "It was amazing. We actually didn't end up seeing each other again, but she really gave me the lowdown."

"I'm working out all this complex gender and sexuality stuff. And yet, I'm seeing a guy?" they added. "That feels very juxtaposed, even if I'm vey happy."

Reflecting on how they first came out their family, Corrin added that they were instantly met with support from their younger brother.

"I started dating a girl and told my mum, and then my little brother DM'd me saying, 'Hey, I wanted to say welcome, because I've been bi for ages,'" Corrin said. "The next generation is so much more chill. They are finding a way to express themselves which is less binary in a very organic way. While we're almost caught in between."

Corrin will be seen next in the upcoming drama "My Policeman" -- an adaptation of the novel of the same name, by Bethan Roberts -- alongside singer Harry Styles, and the film adaptation of the D.H. Lawrence novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover."
