Greg Germann leaves 'Grey's Anatomy' after 4 seasons
But showrunner Krista Vernoff teased that Tom Koracick could return.
Greg Germann, who has played Dr. Tom Koracick on "Grey's Anatomy" for four seasons, has become the third series regular to exit the ABC medical drama in season 17.
Germann, who joined "Grey's" in a recurring role in season 14 and was promoted to series regular ahead of season 16, left the show during Thursday's episode.
"Greg Germann is a comic genius and we are so lucky that he brought his talents to our show these last few years. We will miss Greg terribly in the day to day -- but we plan to see Tom Koracick again!" showrunner Krista Vernoff said in a statement, teasing that fans haven't seen the last of him.
"To have worked with all the incredibly talented people involved with 'Grey's' over the past few years has been such a privilege," Germann said in a statement. "A big thank you to the fans as it has truly been a shared experience!"
Germann's departure coincided with the exit of longtime star Jesse Williams, who was also written out of the series during the episode, titled "Tradition." Williams joined the Shonda Rhimes drama in a recurring role in season 6 before he was promoted to series regular for the following season.
Giacomo Gianniotti's character, Dr. Andrew DeLuca, was killed off in March. He had joined as a guest star in season 11 before being bumped up to a series regular the next season.
"Grey's Anatomy," already the longest-running medical drama in primetime television, has been renewed for season 18.
