Heather Morris remembers Naya Rivera: 'I speak to you every day because I know you’re still with me'
"I cherish every moment we had and hold it close to my heart," Morris wrote.
Heather Morris posted a moving tribute honoring her close friend and former co-star Naya Rivera, who accidentally drowned while swimming in California's Lake Piru last week.
During the search for Rivera, Morris, who played her love interest on "Glee," reached out to authorities to express her interest in helping out to find her friend. She also encouraged all of her followers to pray for Rivera.
In the post memorializing Rivera, Morris wrote about the evolution of their relationship, describing that they "started out as the closest friends and then like all new things, we went through a bit of a rocky phase.”
She said, however, that they "stuck by each other’s side and created the most beautiful friendship built out of love and understanding.”
In her post, she included photos of her sons, Owen, 4, and Elijah, 6, playing with Rivera’s 4-year-old son Josey.
"I have countless pictures of our babies playing, because we shared that kind of pride and joy," she wrote alongside the sweet photos. "I’m showing the world a photo of our little goof balls for you, because I know that meant more than anything and they remind me of you and I."
Morris also reflected on the last time she was able to see Rivera in person.
"I had left oranges outside our home for you to take. I wanted to say hi through the window but my phone didn’t ring when you called...so instead you and Josey left two succulents on our doorstep as a thank you," she wrote.
"I planted those succulents and I look at them everyday and think of you," she continued.
The actress said Rivera sent her "over 5 dozen" videos of herself with Josey on Snapchat that she now wishes she had saved.
Morris then expanded on how much she learned from Rivera, whom she described as the "strongest and most resilient human being."
"You constantly taught me lessons about grief, about beauty and poise, about being strong, resilient and about not giving a f--- (but still somehow respectful)," she wrote. "Yet, the utmost important lesson I learned most of all from you was being a consistent and loving friend."
At the end of her tribute, Morris shared: "I speak to you every day because I know you’re still with me and even though I’m feeling greedy that we don’t get more time together, I cherish every moment we had and hold it close to my heart."
Morris is one of the many members of the "Glee" family who have shared loving messages about their late co-star. The show's creators, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, also recently said they are creating a college fund for Rivera's son Josey.
