Kelly Ripa 'devastated' over death of friend and 'All My Children' co-star John Callahan
"He was 66 years old -- way too young to be taken from us."
Kelly Ripa is mourning the loss of her former "All My Children" co-star John Callahan.
"I had a really bad weekend this weekend," the 49-year-old revealed on Monday’s episode of "Live with Kelly and Ryan," noting her "very dear friend" had died.
"He was a great actor, a really good friend. One of the funniest people I’ve ever met," she added. "He was 66 years old -- way too young to be taken from us."
Ripa noted that Callahan’s ex-wife, Eva LaRue -- who was married to him both on and off screen -- is the godmother of her 22-year-old son Michael. As fans know, she is also mom to daughter Lola, 18, and son Joaquin, 17, with longtime husband Mark Consuelos.
Continuing to get emotional, Ripa told co-host Ryan Seacrest he would have loved Callahan, who she gushed "would say the funniest things" and had "Callahan-isms."
"His daughter and my daughter are good friends, they’re the same age and I just want everyone to know, Eva and Kaya, that we are thinking of you and we are just so sad and devastated," Ripa said, mentioning the late actor’s only daughter, Kaya.
"So, I apologize in advance if I seem out of it," Ripa concluded at the end of the segment. "I really actually am, I'm terribly out of it. You know, forgive me for it."
After LaRue confirmed Callahan’s passing on Saturday via social media, Ripa paid tribute to her pal. "Because there are no words, all i can muster is Rest In Peace #johncallahan," she wrote. "My heart breaks for you @evalarue and @kaya_callahan."
