Michelle Branch reveals she suffered a miscarriage on Christmas
She thanked her family for being "MVPs" who got her through a tough year.
Singer Michelle Branch said she recently suffered a miscarriage.
Branch, who is married to Patrick Carney of the Black Keys, wrote in an emotional Instagram post that on Christmas Day, she experienced her first pregnancy loss, calling it "a dagger in my heart."
Still, she did her best to make the day festive, noting that "between the crying and binge-eating of Christmas cookies, I decided to put on lipstick and a dress."
"We drank champagne alllll day. Made an incredible meal and sang Christmas songs snuggled up by a roaring fire," she added. "5 more days until 2021. I’m limping to the finish line. These people, my precious family, my husband, sister and kids have been the MVP’s. I couldn’t imagine spending a year isolated with anyone else."
Branch, 37, and Carney, 40, have a 2-year-old son, Rhys James, and the "Everywhere" singer also has a 15-year-old daughter, Owen, from her previous marriage.
The term "miscarriage" is often used to refer to a pregnancy loss that takes place before 20 weeks of gestation. Miscarriages are quite common, particularly in the first trimester, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. At least 10% of clinically recognized pregnancies end in loss, though that number is likely higher because many women miscarry before they've confirmed they're expecting.
