Rob Lowe applauds son John for 2 years of sobriety
"I have never been more proud," the former "Parks and Recreation" star wrote
Rob Lowe's son John likes to troll him on social media, but the two had an earnest exchange Wednesday that moved hundreds of fans.
When John Lowe, 25, revealed in a post that he's been sober for two years, his father offered words of encouragement.
"I have never been more proud," the former "Parks and Recreation," star wrote. "Your hard work is an inspiration. Keep Coming Back."
John Lowe, the younger son of Rob Lowe and his wife Sheryl Berkoff, shared two photos on Instagram Wednesday: one image of him drinking what appears to be alcohol from the bottle, and another of a chart showing how long he's been sober. In the caption, he wrote that he hadn't been vocal about the issue before "because I felt it was something I wanted to keep personal," but decided otherwise when the milestone came about.
"Two years in and I am more grateful than ever to have a community of support and friends who continue to build me up and hold me accountable," he wrote. "Making the decision to change your life is difficult at any age, but as a young person I hope that I can be a small example that it is possible and that things really do get SO MUCH BETTER."
"It’s an incredibly strange and tense time in our world right now, and my heart goes out to everyone going through something, but today I am especially aware of the addicts who are looking for help and having a hard time finding it," he continued. "If this is the case and you’re reading this, reach out to someone: a friend, a family member, me... and go online and find a ZOOM AA meeting and JUMP IN!! Love you all."
Rob Lowe, 56, has also been open about his journey with substance abuse, sharing with his Instagram followers last May that he was celebrating 29 years of sobriety.
