Robert Irwin marks 17th birthday with sweet video of late dad Steve Irwin
"I am beyond honoured to continue my dad’s legacy."
Robert Irwin got the sweetest gift for his 17th birthday.
The Australian teen took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a video featuring footage of his late father, "The Crocodile Hunter" star Steve Irwin, talking about what fatherhood meant to him after his son's birth.
"Our lovely Australia Zoo crew made this beautiful video to celebrate my birthday, and it means the world to me," Robert Irwin captioned the post. "I am beyond honoured to continue my dad's legacy and I hope more than anything that he would be proud."
He concluded his post by thanking everyone for celebrating with him and saying he's excited to see what happens "in the last year of my childhood."
Steve Irwin died when he was stabbed by a stingray barb while filming a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" off the coast of Australia on Sept. 4, 2006. He was 44 years old and Robert Irwin was just 2 years old at the time.
Robert Irwin's sister, Bindi Irwin, commented on the post, writing: "Dad is always with you. Love you so much."
The "Dancing With the Stars" champ -- who is pregnant with her first child, a baby girl -- also shared a birthday message for her brother alongside a photo of them on her wedding day, when she married Chandler Powell on March 25.
"Happy Birthday to my amazing brother! Your kind heart and fantastic sense of humour makes my every day," she wrote. "Our baby girl is going to love her 'funcle' (fun uncle) so very much. You're one of the brightest lights the world has ever seen. I'll always be here for you. Love you!"
