May 19, 2008 — -- I have been in Hong Kong this week, covering the earthquake (and battling to get a visa to cover the earthquake better).

Not a time to really focus on fitness. For many journalists, there is a change when you are covering tragedy. You are so in touch with the human condition that it becomes hard to lead a separate life, which is to say, that in Hong Kong, I didn't feel like going to the gym, when people are fighting to survive.

The time change is also tough (+12 from EST).

But these are excuses, I suppose.

Nevertheless, we have been working hard and little else.

I believe that even during a compressed period like the six-week challenge, when given a chance to experience something unique, you should. Life is balance, and no program should dominate discretion to wit, you want to eat eat!

You want to rest rest!

A situation like this reminds how health is everything and appreciating what you have is essential. To see the footage of all these little lifeless bodies being recovered from fallen schools and homes never fails to make you question everything good in the world.

Trite but true: Life can change in an instant.
