Jesse McCartney Heats Up Bryant Park
June 24, 2005 — -- Teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney performed songs from his first solo album "Beautiful Soul" for fans in Bryant Park this morning as part of "Good Morning America's" Summer Concert Series.
Plenty of screeching teenage girls -- McCartney's fan base -- were on hand as he performed the title track from the album and the single, "She's No You."
McCartney's songs, several of which he co-wrote, have been compared to early Michael Jackson, Babyface, Hall & Oates, Craig David and Usher. The teen says he counts Marvin Gaye and other "old-school" Motown greats among his influences.
McCartney, 18, is a busy guy -- he graduated from high school on Wednesday and his album "Beautiful Soul" has gone platinum.
The multi-talented teen also plays grumbly surfer Bradin on the WB's "Summerland." While the show is on break, McCartney is touring to promote his new album.
Growing up with actor parents in New York City, McCartney got his start as a child singing on Broadway, and segued into an acting role on ABC's "All My Children."
At age 12, McCartney joined his first boy band, Dream Street, whose self-titled debut album went platinum.
McCartney has also contributed music to kid-friendly films like "Cinderella Story," "The Best Day of My Life" and "Good Life." In "Ella Enchanted," McCartney performed Elton John's "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart" with Anne Hathaway.
