German Gardener Grows Guinness World Records-Setting Sunflower
The gardener is from the town of Karst in Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany
— -- A German gardener is a new Guinness World Record holder after growing a 30-foot, 1-inch tall sunflower.
Hans-Peter Schiffer, of Karst, Germany, broke his own three previous world’s tallest sunflower records with the gigantic sunflower.
"Some sunflowers are already so unbelievable tall, that it could be very possible to get even a taller one," Guinness World Records officials said Schiffer told them last year. "I am already very happy.”
Schiffer’s estimation proved to be true, despite a hail storm that threatened to destroy the sunflower.
The tall sunflower survived to the extent that Schiffer had to bring in his town’s local fire department, equipped with scaffolding, to help measure it's record-breaking height.
