— -- Hugh Jackman is opening up about his inspirational new film, "Eddie the Eagle."

Inspired by true events, the heartfelt movie tells the story of resilient ski jumper Michael "Eddie" Edwards (Taron Egerton), who's determined to get to the Olympics no matter what it takes. And there's only one person who can help him get there -- Coach Bronson Peary (Jackman).

“[It’s] a story about how friends can bring out the best in each other,” Jackman told “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts. “Both characters are kind of outsiders, but my character had all the potential and none of the endurance or courage or stickability that really Eddie had."

He added: “I watched this with friends and one mom said, ‘Every kid should see this movie’ because it kind of says you don’t have to win in life to be a winner and that’s what I love about the feeling of this movie.”

Egerton, who stars as Eddie, revealed on "GMA" this morning that he hadn't been on skies, ever, before this movie.

“Never in my life ... I had to learn for the film,” he said.

As for working with Jackman, Egerton said they had the best time together.

“The movie is inspirational and uplifting, but it’s just so funny, we just spent two months laughing at each other,” he said. “I kind of made it my mission to try and put Hugh off every single scene.”

“Eddit the Eagle” opens in theaters on Friday.
