June 5 -- Jan Scharf, a 45-year-old emergency room nurse from California, was actively planning her daughter's wedding and living what her family described as a "wonderful life," when she disappeared without a trace.

"This is totally not in her character to not have phoned anybody about anything and just not show up for work," one friend said. Her daughter, Aimee Bautista, spoke with Scharf the day she went missing.

"She was in a wonderful mood and very upbeat that day," said Bautista on ABCNEWS' Good Morning America. "I had no signs that anything could be wrong," she said.

Scharf, who lives in Cameron Park, Calif., and works at UC Davis Medical Center, has been missing since May 14. She was reported missing after she did not show up for her nursing shift. A friend later found her car outside a 24-Hour Fitness center in Folsom, Calif., where she is a member.

Poison Worries

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department is treating Scharf's disappearance as a missing person's case, but there are some odd details surrounding the case.

Scharf had actually called the sheriff's department on April 24, three weeks before she disappeared, to report that a gun was missing from her home, police said. On May 4, she called authorities once again, and said that she believed her husband was trying to poison her by slipping something into her coffee.

Scharf told police there were traces of the heart drug, Digoxin, in her bloodstream, according to detective Gregory Brown of the El Dorado county sheriff's office.

"I have been told through her co-workers and a doctor that did the blood test that Digoxin was in her system but I have not seen those yet," Brown told Good Morning America.

Husband Not a Suspect

Scharf and her husband were in the midst of divorce proceedings when she disappeared. The husband, Glyn Scharf, has been interviewed by investigators, but is not considered a suspect, police said.

Brown said Scharf had been dating a few men she met through an online dating service. The detective has interviewed at least four men she met online.
