July 1, 2009— -- Question: Can eating more protein or protein supplements help to build more muscle?

Answer: The most important factor in building muscle is exercise, by far. If we eat more protein it might help a very small amount. The best time to consume protein is after an exercise session, and that time is also good to consume some carbohydrate as well. This is important not only in young men who are trying to build muscle but in older people. Exercise and adequate protein can help them maintain muscle mass that usually declines with age.
