Are Low-Carb Diets Really Effective In Reducing Weight?
Adele Hite answers the question: "Do low-carb diets work?"
February 1, 2009 -- Question: Are low-carb diets really effective in reducing weight?
Answer: Well, as a matter of fact, yes. Research has shown that low carb diets are just as effective -- or even more effective -- in reducing weight when compared to a low calorie diet. There are many studies, now even out to two years, showing that a low carbohydrate diet has positive effects on certain metabolic markers. These are markers such as blood sugar control and cardiovascular disease risk factors.
Low carbohydrate diets work by eliminating foods that cause the greatest insulin response in the body. But they also provide adequate protein and fat for energy. Since insulin is a hormone that promotes fat storage and prevents fat burning, lowering insulin levels by reducing carbohydrate intake can be very effective in helping people access their stored body fat and help them to lose pounds and inches.
