What Is The Healthiest Diet?
Dr. Hensrud answers the question: 'What Is The Healthiest Diet?'
March 9, 2009 -- Question: What is the healthiest diet?
Answer: If I could define the healthiest diet, it would be generous in vegetables and fruits -- almost all the fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits that people would want to eat. These provide a lot of nutrients and they can help in weight control, also.
It would be moderate in things such as whole grain carbohydrates, such as whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, oatmeal and other whole grains.
It would contain moderate sources of protein, such as fish, beans and other foods. It would contain other plan products such as nuts and low fat dairy products.
It would be low in processed food, refined carbohydrates such as sugar, saturated fat from meat and high-fat dairy products.
This isn't an all-or-nothing type thing either. As long as you eat most of your foods from plant foods, you can still have a treat now and then and still be satisfied.
