Coldplay's Chris Martin Reveals His 6:1 Fasting Diet
The musician says he fasts one day per week, drinking only water.
— -- Coldplay front man Chris Martin may have channeled his inner-primate in the group’s new music video, “Adventure of a Lifetime,” but off stage he’s also taking on a very primal diet, which he said improves his voice and makes him more creative.
“I fast once a week, yeah, one day a week,” Martin said in an interview with Fresh 102.7.
The 38-year-old Grammy winner, who is scheduled to appear on the Super Bowl 50 halftime show next month, said he’s on the 6:1 diet, eating six days a week and fasting on the seventh day by drinking water.
The idea goes back to the days of cave men who often experienced a constant feast and famine.
“This guy said to me, ‘Try not eating for a day, it will make your body feel healthier,’ and I did it and I found I could sing a bit better, and also I felt so grateful for food,” said Martin.

But some nutritionists disagree with the fast.
“Any of the benefits that this type of program offers relate to psychological benefits, not necessarily physical benefits,” Lisa Drayer, nutritionist and author of “The Beauty Diet,” told ABC News.
“You do have to be careful because fasting can lead to headaches, irritability, low blood sugar and difficulty concentrating and this could all negatively impact performance,” she added.
Martin’s ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow is also famously known for strict, unusual diets.
But Martin admitted the 6:1 plan can be tough.
“If you fast for a while, about 15 hours, then you can get a little antsy, so you’ve got to be careful who you’re talking to at that point,” he said.
Martin said he’s clearly not doing this for weight loss, but if you’re hoping to drop some pounds with this 6:1 plan, you might want to hit the pause button. Medical experts caution that fasting once a week by only drinking water can be risky especially if you have health problems like liver or kidney issues or if you’re pregnant.
