COVID updates: Team USA figure skater Vincent Zhou tests positive at Olympics
He is undergoing additional testing to see if he can compete.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has swept the globe, more than 5.7 million people have died from the disease worldwide, including over 902,000 Americans, according to real-time data compiled by Johns Hopkins University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
About 64% of the population in the United States is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Team USA figure skater Vincent Zhou tests positive at Olympics
Team USA figure skater Vincent Zhou has tested positive for COVID-19, U.S. Figure Skating said in a statement.
“As part of yesterday’s regular COVID-19 screening, Vincent Zhou tested positive,” the statement read. “Under the guidance of the USOPC medical staff, Zhou is undergoing additional testing to confirm his status.”
If the results come out negative, Zhou will be able to compete in the men’s short program, which begins Tuesday.
NY positivity rate under 4% for 1st time since November
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said Saturday the state's COVID-19 cases continue to show a downward trend.
The positivity rate has dropped to 3.76%, which is the first time it is below 4% since Nov. 26.
COVID-19-related hospitalizations, now at 5,466, are also at their lowest level since Christmas, state health data showed.
As of Saturday, 74.4% of New York residents were fully vaccinated, according to the governor's office.
Even during omicron, unvaccinated most likely to test positive
Despite the emergence of the omicron variant and increased concerns over waning vaccine immunity, new data from the CDC shows that vaccines are still dramatically reducing the risk of testing positive, requiring hospitalization, or dying of COVID-19.
In December, unvaccinated adults had a three times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19, compared to vaccinated individuals. Previously reported data, published last month, showed that the unvaccinated were 15 times more likely to die from COVID-19 in November.
Similarly, in December, unvaccinated adults were five times more likely to test positive, compared to fully vaccinated and boosted Americans.
Unvaccinated adults, ages 30 to 49 years old, also saw the highest case-incidence rate while omicron was surging.

CDC director greenlights full approval for Moderna vaccine
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky has given the greenlight on full approval for Moderna's vaccine for all adults, which was the last step in the process for the vaccine to move from an emergency use authorization to a permanent approval.
Walensky's ruling came after the CDC's advisory committee voted unanimously Friday to give the Moderna vaccine full approval.
It has been nearly a year since Moderna received emergency use authorization.
