Feb. 26, 2014 — -- A Russian skicross racer, who fractured her back during a training run at the Olympics, said that she can no longer feel anything below her navel.

Maria Komissarova fractured her back while on a training run for the Olympic Ski Cross competition on Feb. 15.

The 23-year-old took to Instagram this week to update fans about her condition and according to the Associated Press wrote, "I don't feel my body below my navel."

However, Komissarova wrote that she planned to eventually recover, writing, "I am strong and I know that I'll be able to stand on my legs again some day."

In her Instagram photo Komissarova wore a hospital gown and posed with her boyfriend, Alex. According to a Google translation of her caption, she thanked her boyfriend as well.

"If not for Alex I would probably have gone mad. He is my God," wrote Komissarova.

Russian Skicross Racer Breaks Spine

Komissarova suffered a fractured 12th dorsal vertebrae in her middle-lower back after crashing on the ski cross course earlier this month.

The 23-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent an emergency six-and-a-half hour operation during which doctors inserted a metal implant into her spine.

Days later Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Komissarova's bedside and "wished her a speedy recovery."

Komissarova was ranked 33rd in the current World Cup standings and was able to qualify for the Olympics after suffering a leg injury last year.
