Woman With Hair Loss Condition Captures Transformation in Time Lapse Video
Rebecca Brown has the impulse control disorder trichotillomania.
— -- For six years, Rebecca Brown documented her appearance as she battled the impulse control disorder trichotillomania, which caused her to pull out her hair and eyebrows.
The 21-year-old Londoner used selfies to create a time lapse video of her transformation from a teen with long blond locks to a young woman with short hair or even shaved head.
“People are more than their conditions. I am more than my hair and skin,” she wrote in the description for her YouTube video, which has been viewed nearly 400,000 times. “Watching this back is rather scary for me, it makes me both sad and happy at the same time…when you see the smiles in this, especially after the baldness happens... those smiles are genuine.”
People with trichotillomania can also compulsively pick at their skin and eyelashes, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Brown told ABC News she wanted people to see past her condition.
"Our physicality should not define our beauty,"said Brown. "Beauty is more than what we see with our eyes and I hope this project shows that."
On her twitter Brown wrote that she wanted to show that "exteriors shouldn't define our beauty"
