Feb. 15, 2011— -- Earl Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has announced his engagement to Canadian philanthropist Karen Gordon.

The wedding will take place at the Spencer family home in Northamptonshire June 18.

It will be a private affair, attended by family and close friends.

Somewhat a contrast, one suspects, to his nephew Prince William's wedding, which is scheduled for a few months before.

Spencer, 46, is a writer and broadcaster.

Gordon is the founder and chief executive of Whole Child International, a Los Angeles-based charity that works to improve the lot of orphaned, abandoned, or abused children.

Charles Spencer is best known for his emotional oration at Diana's funeral in 1997, in which he rebuked both Britain's royal family and the media.

This will be his third marriage.
