American Woman Injured in Spain's Bull Running Festival
"I'm really, really lucky," she said.
LONDON— -- Six foreigners, including three Americans, were reportedly injured during the world-famous annual running of the bulls at the San Fermin festival in Spain.
A U.S. woman was lucky to escape with only a sprained foot thanks to her husband, who managed to get her to safety in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona.
Cindi Campbell, 53, of Cave Creek, Arizona, was taking part in the festival today when she fell over, as a bull was coming toward her.
“All of a sudden someone told me, 'Don't stop, go, there's another one,' and I kept running,” Campbell said in an interview with The Associated Press, adding, “I turned and here he was.”
Today was the second run in the nine-day festival where participants are chased by bulls along narrow streets toward Pamplona's bull ring.
“Thank goodness that I really didn't get dramatically injured,” Campbell said. “I guess it was dramatic, but I'm not hurt badly. I'm fine. I feel great. I'm really, really lucky.”
More than 1,000 people took part in the run, which lasted nearly six minutes, twice the normal running time. Campbell said she did not regret participating.
“I will still say that I'm glad I did it, because if I hadn't done it, I would've regretted that I hadn't done it,” she said.
“I would have kicked myself that I had the opportunity.”
