Man Charged With Murder in London Stabbing Attack
A 19-year-old has been charged with the murder of the wife of an FSU professor.
— -- Police in London charged a man today with the murder of an American tourist, who was killed in a knife attack in Russell Square on Wednesday.
Zakaria Bulhan, 19, was charged with the murder of Darlene Horton, 64, the American wife of Florida State University professor Richard Wagner. The FSU professor was in London to teach a summer session, according to the university.
Bulhan was also charged with five counts of attempted murder for five other individuals who were injured, according to the London's Metropolitan Police. He will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Aug. 6.
Police responded to the incident within six minutes and were able to Taser Bulhan and take him into custody with no shots fired.
There was no evidence of radicalization or terrorism as a motivation, Metropolitan Police Asst. Commissioner Mark Rowley said on Thursday, adding that they believed it was "spontaneous" and the victims were "selected at random."
FSU President John Thrasher said in a statement, “There are no words to express our heartache over this terrible tragedy.”
He added: "We are shocked that such senseless violence has touched our own FSU family, and we will do all we can to assist Professor Wagner and his loved ones, as well as his friends and colleagues in the Psychology department, as they mourn."
