  • On Jan. 8, 2016, an elite unit of Mexican Marines assaulted the safe house where drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was staying with armed guards. A brief gun battle left five guards dead and Guzman was apprehended shortly after he escaped the house through a hidden tunnel.
