Living on the Outskirts: Roma in Europe

There are 12 million Romani people living in Europe, forming the continent's largest ethnic minority, according to Open Society Foundations. Ake Ericson has photographed the lives of Romani in ten countries, including France, Serbia, Romania and Sweden. In many of these countries, the Romani have faced discrimination, attacks and evictions.
“I just want to be a regular citizen,” says Halmti Lonujevo, 41, a Roma is not fully recognized as a citizen by any country. He was born in Kosovo in 1974, when the Balkan territory was a part of Yugoslavia.
