Dorothy’s ‘Ruby’ Shoes Could Get You Out of a Bad Date
New "ruby" technology could let you click your heels to get out of a bad date.
— -- There’s no place like home when you’re stuck on a bad date.
But now some new technology might make it easier to click your heels to get home just like Dorothy did in the iconic “The Wizard of Oz.”
The real-life ruby slippers will come in app form, called Dorothy, which interacts with a small, Bluetooth-enabled “ruby” device that slips onto your shoe. With just three clicks of the heels the ruby can either trigger a phone call, text three friends your location or order an Uber car, conveniently giving you an excuse to leave the situation because sometimes, “There’s no place like home.”
“You’ve got a little thing called a ruby and you clip it onto your shoes and if you tap it three times, it syncs with your smart phone,” Peter Corbett, CEO of iStrategyLabs and the “Oz” behind the invention, told ABC News. “It can generate a fake phone call so you can get out of that bad date.”
With the help of the ruby, it’s fair to tell your date you may (or may not) see them “somewhere over the rainbow” as you dart out the door.
The Dorothy app hasn’t officially been released in the app store yet as the creators are currently testing out this beta prototype for all the additional functions they want it to enable.
