How to Prepare the 'Friends' Thanksgiving Leftovers Sandwich, the 'Moist Maker'
Andrew Rea shot a how-to video in his Harlem kitchen.
— -- "Friends" fans know the secret of what David Schwimmer's character, Ross, deemed "the moist maker": an extra slice of bread dipped in gravy wedged in the middle of a Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich.
With Thanksgiving leftovers, New York City filmmaker Andrew Rea made a how-to guide for building the "Friends" Thanksgiving sandwich.
The leftovers sandwich is featured in an episode titled "The One With Ross's Sandwich," in which Ross is angry after someone eats his leftover Thanksgiving sandwich at work. The sandwich was made by his sister, Monica, played by Courteney Cox.
Though Rea said he is not a big "Friends" follower, he received tons of requests from fans of his TV- and movie-inspired YouTube cooking series, "Binging With Babish," to make "the moist maker" masterpiece.
Rea, a documentary filmmaker and visual effects artist by day and cooking enthusiast in his spare time, created the leftovers sandwich from the ground up by first cooking a full Thanksgiving meal.
He used Thanksgiving recipes from his favorite blogs for the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce, and he didn't skimp on supplies.
"The ingredients were around $100," Rea said.
He then spent about six hours cooking the meal in his Harlem kitchen.
The premium sandwich is built in this order: a slice of bread, a layer of white meat, a layer of stuffing, the secret "moist maker" ingredient — bread dipped in gravy — a layer of dark meat, another layer of stuffing, a layer of cranberry sauce and the third slice of bread on top.
"Then eat it as fast as you can, before your co-workers steal it," Rea advises in the video.
The YouTube chef said he had to choose between becoming a chef or a filmmaker while in school. Since he chose to be a filmmaker, he now cooks as a hobby. He said his goal for his video series is to build an audience big enough to help him support a "more traditional cooking show" that would help viewers improve their skills in the kitchen. He hopes to fund the show via Kickstarter.
Rea's Thanksgiving sandwich video has attracted more than 530,000 views since he posted it.
