Rabbit Speed Dating Leads to Bunny Romance
A round of rabbit speed dating produces a partner for one lonely bunny.
— -- After reading about lonely red-eyed white rabbit Tonya, one couple from Pennsylvania made the trip to the Animal Care Centers of NYC (NYCACC) in East Harlem to adopt her -- and hopefully a companion.
With rabbits recently becoming illegal to sell in New York City pet shops, the NYCACC is one of the only places left to adopt a rabbit in the city, creating an influx of the furry little creatures at the shelter.
According to longtime NYCACC volunteer, Amy Odum, rabbits are highly social animals yet exceedingly choosy when it comes to their companions. There are clear signs to avoid and obvious indicators of a budding romance that she looks out for when it comes to testing out potential pairs.
On a cold February afternoon, just one week after Valentine's Day, a Bachelor-style roundup of three male rabbits resulted in a clear winner.
Time and time again a bridesmaid, Tonya is now finally a bride.
