How to Create a Fourth of July Tablescape
Place Settings: Stack paper plates in a trio of sizes, shades and designs at each seat. Keep plastic utensils in the same patriotic palette.
Accent Pieces: Votive candles add another spark of red, eliciting oohs and aahs come dusk. Add pizzazz to the punch by slipping a large silver sparkler ornament into the punch bowl; attach mini sparklers to drink straws to reinforce the theme. Clear plastic goblets are downright spiffy these days, so take advantage and keep the picnic worry-free. For easy access, set up a tailgate beverage bar right out of the back of a red pickup. Your own backyard keeps it convenient, or snag a gazebo in a nearby park and have a grand old time.
Clip-On Cups: Keep drink orders straight by clipping place cards onto disposable cups with miniature clothespins. Guests can claim their drinks at the end of the serving line.
Napkins and Utensils: Use cloth bandanas for napkins, rolling utensils inside and arranging them in metal buckets for buffet-style service. Bring height and color to the table with small American flags placed in the buckets along with the utensils.
