— -- The clip-on man bun has been causing a social media craze since going up for sale on Groupon's website Monday.

And contrary to popular belief, it wasn't Groupon's way of pranking the Internet.

"We always aim to surprise and delight our customers, especially heading into the holiday season," Bill Roberts, head of global communications at Groupon, told ABC News. "And if we’re able to provide the opportunity for someone to sport a man bun on a whim, then I’ll call that a win."

For just $9.99, the Clip-In Man Bun is “for the man who wears many hats, but no bun,” as explained on Groupon.com, which, Roberts said, worked with a third-party vendor to come up with the concept and source the product.

The artificial hair piece that attaches to your hair has already sold 2,000 units in just over 24 hours, according to Roberts.

But since being offered on the e-commerce site, Twitter users have been sounding off on the beauty accessory that allows buyers to channel their inner Jared Leto.

"Whether it stems from Hollywood actors gracing the red carpet or manly Brooklynite updos, the man bun is now a standard and eye-catching accessory atop a gentleman’s head," Roberts said. "We’ve sold a couple thousand in less than two days, and while a synthetic man bun could surely be used as a gag gift, the recent style trend appears to be very real."

The Clip-In Man Bun is discounted at 85 percent on Groupon.
