Big Lego Fan Uses Lego Cow to Pop the Question at Legoland in Denmark

— -- When Sarah King messaged Sam Pearce on the Internet, he thought she was “too good to be true.”

Then he met her, and discovered that she was all she seemed to be--and she loved Legos.

After more than six years together, Pearce, of Portsmouth, England, knew it was time to ask her to marry him, but the proposal had to be right.

Pearce, 29, decided he would pop the question at Legoland Billund in Denmark, but it would be a surprise for King, 24, so he enlisted the aid of Legoland, which was only too happy to help.

He also enlisted the aid of a Lego cow, which he built over time in secret and hid from King.

The cow held a sign which said “Sarah King, will you … ,” and Legoland staff who were in on the plan placed the figure strategically in the display at Legoland’s Miniland on Sept 27.

Video of what came next was posted on YouTube, and in it, King can be seen strolling along the park, taking in the display of Legos that formed a miniature town. Her jaw drops when she spots the cow bearing the sign and she stops to point at it. Then Pearce gets down on one knee, and told her that he loved her.

“I’ve got a little question to ask you,” he said, and she smilingly asks: “What are you doing?”

He goes on: “Will you do me the honor of being my wife?” She starts to cry and says yes.

In an email interview with ABC News, Pearce said he came up with the idea of asking King for her hand at Legoland Billund because of their mutual love for the brand and a desire to create a cherished memory for King. He also cited the fact that Denmark is the home of Lego as the reason for selecting Legoland Billund over England's Legoland Windsor.

In the YouTube video – which was posted by Legoland Billund – the amusement park said it couldn’t resist Pearce’s unusual request.

Pearce wrote that King “loves her Friesian cow print things, including plush Friesian cows,” so he decided to make a Lego version of her cow stuffed toy for use in the proposal.

He was confident King would accept his proposal, but he acknowledged that he developed a surprise attack of nerves in the last few minutes.

“When it came to the actual proposal, everything I had planned to say disappeared from my mind and the only words that I could think of were what was said in the video!” he wrote. “Thankfully the words my heart was thinking were along the same lines as what I wanted to say so I did manage to propose successfully!”

Legoland said it offered King and Pearce a stay at its hotel in a Lego-themed room.

The couple hasn’t yet set a date for the big day. Pearce is in the final year of an aeronautical engineering apprenticeship and King is a receptionist coordinator at a private hospital. He says the wedding will likely come after he’s found a job and he and King have purchased a house.

“So in total, between 2 to 3 years from now,” Pearce wrote, adding: “She is the most patient girl I have known!”
