The university's School of Journalism has long been recognized as a leader in journalism education, and it counts well-known journalism pioneers and 18 Pulitzer Prize winners among its alumni. It is also home to the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, which strives to advance press freedom and democracy through continuing education programs for journalists in Latin America and the Caribbean. The school has four areas of professional concentration: print, broadcast, photo and multimedia journalism. The broadcast program emphasizes not only a hands-on approach to acquiring professional competence in the use of new technologies but also trains students in the critical thinking, writing, reporting and producing skills required to meet the challenges of today's fast-evolving media world.
