As a staff photographer for LIFE magazine from 1936 to 1972, Alfred Eisenstaedt captured some of the most iconic images of the 20th century. His work was featured on the cover of the magazine numerous times, including his most famous photograph of an American sailor kissing a nurse while dipping her in Times Square on V-J Day in New York City. Pictured: From one of his many memorable portrait sessions, Marilyn Monroe poses on the patio outside of her home in Hollywood, California, May 1953.
