— -- Thursday's bigger than big event takes place from 8:00-9:30 pm ET when the ten declared Republican presidential candidates gather in Simi Valley, Calif., for a Reagan Library debate moderated by Grace Kelly-loving Chris Matthews and co-sponsored by MSNBC and Politico.com.
Now that the House Democrats have failed in their bid to override President Bush's veto of the "white-flag-of-surrender/will-of-the-American-people," the attention of campaign watchers will turn to how Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., respond to the pressure being applied to them by John "Send It Back" Edwards.
"We're out there doing everything we can to send that bill back," Edwards senior adviser Joe Trippi tells ABC News. "Clearly that's not where Clinton or Obama are at. They are talking about finding the 16 Republican votes for an override. I don't think there is anybody on the Republican or the Democratic side who believes that's possible. There's no reality to that position."
Clinton has two events Thursday: at 9:00 am ET, she goes to the White House for the National Day of Prayer Breakfast, and at 10:00 am ET she attends an Armed Services hearing with US Central Commander Admiral William Fallon in review of the defense authorization request.
Obama starts his day in Washington, DC, and ends it in New York City, but he has no public events on his schedule.
As for Edwards, he will be in Tucson, Ariz., Thursday for a 4:30 pm ET meeting with the plumbers and pipefitters.
The increasingly feisty Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., is in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday for a 12:00 pm ET lunch hosted by 21st Century Democrats.
The National Conference of Black Mayors Convention hears from Gov. Bill Richardson D-N.M., at a 12:30 pm ET luncheon in Baton Rouge, La.
At 11:30 am ET, Michelle Obama picks up the "Visionary Award for Community Affairs" from Ebony magazine at the snazzy Cipriani restaurant in New York City.
