May 7, 2007— -- Official Washington will be transfixed in splendor tonight as President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush host a State Dinner for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip at the White House.
The gowns, tails, and white ties come off Tuesday as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip take a 10:15 am ET tour of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, stop by the British Embassy, visit patients at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC., along with First Lady Laura Bush, and tour the World War II National Memorial. In the evening, the royal couple hosts an 8:00 pm ET dinner for the President and Mrs. Bush at the British Embassy.
On the Hill, we'll wait and see if congressional leaders move the ball a bit on a compromise on the Iraq war supplemental when Senate Democrats and Republicans emerge from their weekly 12:30 pm ET policy luncheons.
ABC News' Jake Tapper reports House Democrats are looking to use Congress' power of the purse to create an Iraq war spending timetable. The idea is Congress would provide funding to keep operations going until the end of July, but then, there would have to be a second a vote for more funding at the end of the summer, Tapper writes.
