— -- Voters in the state of Hawaii are heading to the polls on Election Day 2016.

There are four electoral votes at stake in Hawaii in the presidential race. Hawaii allows early voting.

The Aloha State is largely left leaning. Hawaii’s governor, U.S. senator and U.S. representatives are all Democrats. In the 2008 and 2012 general election, Barack Obama, who was born there, won over 70 percent of the vote in Hawaii.

Hawaii had the lowest voter turnout of all 50 states for the 2012 election. Only 44.5 percent of the state’s population participated in general election voting.

Voting History in the Past Five Presidential Elections:

Other Notable Races:

Voters in Honolulu must make two separate choices after U.S. Rep. Mark Takai died in office: Someone to fill his seat for the remaining two months of his term, and someone to represent the district for the next two years. Voter confusion could lead to two different people winning the same seat, to serve two different terms. -The Associated Press
