COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will campaign with Ohio Gov. John Kasich in Ohio Monday, Kasich's campaign announced Sunday night.

Romney, who has not formally endorsed any candidate in this year's race for the Republican presidential nomination, has recorded robocalls for Kasich and one of the governor's opponents, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., but has yet to make an appearance on the campaign trail on behalf of any candidate. He does not plan to endorse Kasich on Monday, Chris Schrimpf, a Kasich spokesman, and a person close to Romney told ABC News.

Romney did earlier this month blast Republican front-runner Donald Trump during a speech in which he encouraged voters to support Trump's opponents, Kasich, Rubio or U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

The former Massachusetts governor, who lost the 2012 presidential election to President Obama, will join Kasich at two Ohio events Monday: an afternoon town hall in North Canton and an evening rally in Kasich's hometown of Westerville, Kasich's campaign said.

Governor Romney reached out offering to help,” Schrimpf said, “and we said absolutely.”

Polls show Kasich locked in a close race with Trump before Ohio's Republican primary Tuesday.
