Oldest Member of Congress, 91, in Car Crash

Rep. Ralph Hall of Texas was in stable condition

— -- Rep. Ralph Hall, at 91 the oldest member of Congress, was involved in an automobile accident today when the car he was riding in collided with another vehicle, his spokesman said.

The accident occurred on Highway 121 just south of Bonham when a car turned in front of Congressman Hall's vehicle which was being driven by one of his close friends, Hall spokesman Ed Valentine said. Neither driver was hurt.

Hall, who was returning home after attending the Fanin County Parade, suffered a hip injury and minor cuts and bruises but is expected to make a full recovery, Valentine said.

Hall was conscious and joking with paramedics as they Care Flighted him to Medical Center of Plano, the spokesman said.

A spokeswoman for the Medical Center of Plano said Hall was in stable condition, but declined to provide any additional details.

Hall, who has served in Congress for 32 years, was defeated in a primary runoff in May.
