Jill Biden, an educator and advocate for military families, became the first lady of the United States on Jan. 20, 2021. <br><br> Biden has earned two masters degrees and a doctorate in education. She has helped bring awareness to the importance of community colleges in America’s education system, the sacrifices made by military service members and their families, as well as to issues of particular importance to women, including breast cancer.

Jill Biden was born Jill Tracy Jacobs in Hammonton, New Jersey in 1951, but spent the majority of her childhood in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, with her parents and four younger sisters.

After her brief first marriage ended in the early '70s, Jill Biden was set up on a blind date in 1975 with then-U.S. Sen. Joe Biden, a widower with two small children. The Bidens are strong supporters of those in the military and their families. Beau Biden served in the National Guard and was deployed to Iraq. Hunter Biden served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. <br><br> Jill Biden has been involved in several nonprofit military support organizations, such as Delaware Boots on the Ground, which provides assistance to military members and families during deployment and peacetime.

In 2011, Jill Biden and first lady Michelle Obama launched Joining Forces, an initiative that provided educational and employment resources as well as health and wellness services to military personnel and their families.
