— -- Kate Barrett is a digital media producer based in ABC News' Washington bureau. She produces politics, health and travel stories for ABCNews.com, focusing on news emerging from federal agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration and the Food and Drug Administration.

Before joining ABC News, Barrett worked as a reporter for Congressional Quarterly on Capitol Hill, covering House and Senate committees on health, education and veterans affairs.

She has also worked in Stephens Media's Washington bureau, where she covered Congress for newspapers including the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas and Oklahoma's Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise.

Barrett started her career in journalism as a production assistant and news writer at KRON-4 in San Francisco. She holds a bachelor's degree in history-sociology from Columbia University and a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism.
