ABC News Presents Special Coverage of the 2016 State of the Union on January 12

ABC News will broadcast President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address and the Republican Response by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley on Tuesday, January 12 beginning at 9 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network. 

Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos will lead coverage throughout the night from Washington, DC with the ABC News team. Stephanopoulos will anchor "Good Morning America" from Washington on Wednesday, January 13.

ABC News' David Muir will anchor "World News Tonight" from Washington, DC on Tuesday, February 12, previewing the address and response.

ABC News' political team including Muir, Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz and Congressional Correspondent Mary Bruce will report on the news and major topics before and after the speeches.  Senior Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas will report on domestic issues and homeland security. ABC News Political Analyst Cokie Roberts and Senior Strategic Advisor Matthew Dowd will provide analysis.

Nightline” will have complete coverage of the address and response with Anchor Byron Pitts at 12:35 a.m., ET. will livestream the State of the Union address, the Republican response and the network’s coverage across ABC News’ mobile, social and OTT platforms. ABC’s correspondents and digital journalists will provide reporting, analysis and video updates throughout the evening at Also, Matthew Dowd and Contributor LZ Granderson will host digital show “Strait Talk” from DC providing commentary on the speeches.

Multi Platform Reporter Lana Zak and Digital Host Amna Nawaz will anchor the pre-show beginning at 8:45 p.m., ET with a post-show immediately following ABC News’ television coverage.  


ABC News Radio will provide live coverage of the State of the Union, Republican response and analysis from 9 - 11 p.m., ET.  ABC News Radio Correspondent Aaron Katersky will anchor the evening’s programs and will be joined by ABC News Radio correspondent Megan Hughes at the Capitol, Multi Platform Reporter Kenneth Moton at the White House, ABC News Political Director Rick Klein and ABC News Analyst Trey Hardin from DC.

ABC NewsOne, the affiliate news service of ABC News, will have Multi Platform Reporters Stephanie Ramos and Bazi Kanani reporting on the State of the Union from Washington and Cokie Roberts will preview the speech for over 200 ABC affiliates and partners.
