Tim Tebow Is a Hot Topic for the St. Louis Rams; Carol Burnett Earns Top Comedy Honors

It's not always enough to know what's "trending." It kind of helps to know why. Welcome to The Social Climber, where we provide a quick primer on the people, places and things that are being feverishly searched and shared online -- and try to make sense of it all.

Rumors are flying left and right around the NFL that Tim Tebow might be acquired by the St. Louis Rams to replace quarterback Sam Bradford, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.

The Rams confirmed today that Bradford will miss the rest of the season, ESPN reported.

While NFL media columnist Michael Silver was tipped off Sunday that the Rams organization internally discussed the possibility of signing the onetime New England Patriot and New York Jet, it seems the future still appears murky for Tebow.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch sportswriter Jim Thomas took to Twitter today to set the record straight, based on what he knew from working the Rams beat.

"Contrary to speculation, Tim Tebow is not coming to St. Louis," he wrote.

Whether Tebowmania sweeps St. Louis is anyone's guess.

"This is very encouraging," Burnett, 80, joked in her acceptance speech. "I mean it was a long time in coming, but I understand because there are so many people funnier than I am, especially here in Washington."

Justin Bieber has made a habit out of dropping a new single every Monday (#MusicMonday, that is). His latest, "Hold Tight," has been dubbed by his fans as his sexiest ever.

Poetic lyrics include: "Something like a Ziploc, but a lip lock."

Biebs shouted out to those Beliebers of his on Twitter to help take the song to No. 1, and thanked them graciously for their feedback.

"Reading these tweets about #HoldTight and you all are wild. Haha. Thanks. Glad you like the song. Alot. Haha," he wrote.

Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Arnold Schwarzenegger: Stars of the next Oscar-nominated film or Halloween revelers?

In an interview with BAFTA Saturday, Hanks revealed that the trio took their kids out trick-or-treating together in Washington, D.C.'s Georgetown neighborhood in the mid-'90s.

"If anyone was to come out of their house to see who's on the sidewalk, they're going to win the celebrity lottery here," Hanks said. "Arnold was saying to us, 'Come on, hurry up, you snooze you lose, get up there with your candy.'"

Let's all let that sink in.

Mary Steenburgen, Academy award-winning actress and wife of Ted Danson, can now add songwriter to her resume.

The "Last Vegas" star revealed in an interview with CBS that she was recently signed by Universal Music as a songwriter.

Steenburgen, 60, said she became captivated by music after she had surgery on her arm.

"At one point I kind of looked in the mirror and said, 'You know, you're a mom, you're a wife, people count on you, you can't go off the deep end into this kind of crazy, musical swirl,'" she told CBS.

But she did. Turns out, her trusty instrument of choice is the accordion. Fun fact of the day.

The Social Climber heard that there was a slight chance an asteroid might barrel toward Earth in 2032, but the Orionid meteor shower reminded her that space wasn't all that terrible.

The meteor shower peaked today and Sunday, when the Earth passed through dust left by Halley's Comet, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The Orionids are known for their brightness and are most visible between midnight and dawn, according to NASA.

"With city lights and the moonlight, you might be lucky to see two an hour," Anthony Cook, who heads the telescope program at Griffith Observatory, told the Los Angeles Times, "But if they are bright, it will be like free fireworks."

Hope you took some good pictures, stargazers.

Johnny Depp caught everyone by surprise when he made an appearance at the London Film Festival to honor horror icon Christopher Lee.

In presenting Lee with a British Film Institute Fellowship Saturday, Depp heralded Lee as "a national treasure" and "a genuine artist."
