— -- Baseball's newest Hall of Famers are poking fun at themselves.
Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Craig Biggio and John Smoltz appeared on Wednesday’s episode of “Late Show with David Letterman,” reading the night’s Top Ten list: Things I Said When I Learned I Made the Baseball Hall of Fame. The group was announced as the 2015 enshrines Tuesday, each earning more than 75 percent of the vote.
Martinez started off the humor, musing about his profession: “Maybe I should make baseball my career.”
Johnson, meanwhile, assessed how the Hall of Fame might affect his visibility: “One step closer to becoming People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive.’”
Biggio mused about his days in the locker room: “Second biggest thrill? Showering with Roger Clemens.”
Smoltz wondered about his induction outfit: “Ooh, what will I wear to the ceremony?”
Johnson provided the biggest zinger at No. 2.
“Guess they forgot about me killing that bird,” he said, acknowledging a 2001 spring training incident in which a bird flew into the path of one of his pitches, a freak moment that left feathers scattered across the infield.
