— -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher won't return to coaching next season.

In fact, Cowher is expected to remain out of coaching "for a few more years," a source close to Cowher tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

When the Washington Redskins did not let go of defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, who coached under Cowher with the Steelers from 1997-99, some league sources suspected it was with the hopes Washington could hire Cowher. But Cowher is not expected to coach Washington, Cleveland or any team this season.

Cowher, 56, spent 15 seasons as the Steelers coach. During his tenure, the Steelers won a Super Bowl, eight division titles and made 10 playoff appearances.

After resigning in January 2007, Cowher joined CBS Sports as a studio analyst.
