DeSean Jackson's home burglarized

— -- PHILADELPHIA --  DeSean Jackson's offseason has gotten off to an interesting and unsettling start.

A few days after the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver said he wanted to renegotiate his contract, Jackson's South Philadelphia home was robbed of more than $250,000 in cash and jewelry, along with a handgun, police said.

Investigators said Saturday the burglary happened sometime earlier in the week at Jackson's home, not far from the team's practice facility. Police say the cash and jewelry were taken from a safe.

A silver 9mm handgun is also missing. No arrests have been made, and a police spokeswoman says the investigation is ongoing.

According to reports, there was no sign of forced entry. Jackson's mother discovered the apparent burglary on Saturday morning and told police that some of Jackson's friends had access to the house.

Jackson was in Miami from Monday until Saturday, a fact he made public via his Twitter account. Jackson tweeted photos of himself and some friends traveling to Miami on Monday, hours after the Eagles cleaned out their lockers.

Jackson took to Twitter on Saturday, addressing the robbery and attaching an Instagram photo of himself smiling.

On Wednesday, Jackson hosted an event at a club in Miami Beach with Oregon running back  De'Anthony Thomas, who declared for the NFL draft.

Two days later, Jackson tweeted a photo of himself with a group that included actor/former pro wrestler Dwayne Johnson and Falcons running back Steven Jackson after "shooting new show Ballers," he wrote. Johnson and Mark Wahlberg are shooting a pilot for an HBO series called "Ballers" in Miami this month, according to reports.

Police told reporters the burglary occurred sometime between Jackson's departure Monday and his mother's visit to the house early Saturday.

Before leaving for Miami on Monday, Jackson told several reporters that he felt a new contract was "deserving" and that his agent, Joel Segal, had an offseason plan to address it. Jackson just finished the second year of a five-year deal that will pay him $10.5 million in 2014.
