Dolphins' Jaelan Phillips says he has season-ending knee injury

Miami Dolphins linebacker  Jaelan Phillips announced Wednesday that the knee injury he suffered on Monday night will end his season.

Phillips announced in a statement posted to Instagram that the injury to his knee "will require reconstructive surgery."

This is the second straight year that his season will end early because of injury. He suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in a game against the New York Jets last November.

"I bleed for this game and my team. I'm devastated to have to miss another season, but my resolve has never been stronger... I'll be back," Phillips wrote in the Instagram post that featured his statement.

Phillips first injured his knee in the second quarter of the Dolphins' 31-12 loss to the Tennessee Titans and left the game. He briefly spent time in the medical tent but quickly exited and ultimately reentered the game. But he appeared to reaggravate the injury in the third quarter, slamming his hand onto the grass several times out of frustration.

Phillips, selected 18th overall by the Dolphins in the 2021 draft, has one sack this season in four games. He has 23 sacks in four seasons for the Dolphins.

He is under contract for the 2025 season after the Dolphins picked up the fifth-year option in his rookie contract in April.
