Behind J.C. Coleman's gold game-day watch

— -- Befitting the glitz of a national audience and the reigning champs coming to town, Virginia Tech running back J.C. Coleman upped his accessory game.

The Virginia Tech running back, who has worn a wristwatch during games since at least his junior year, caught fans' eyes with his gleaming gold watch during the Hokies' Monday night tilt with No. 1 Ohio State.

He once explained to The Washington Post it reminded him "it's my time."

Despite the ostensible hazards it poses -- imagine, for instance, taking a shot at full speed from a bezel that big -- he's far from the first player to wear one on the field, although typically players choose more practical sports watches.
