— -- San Jose Sharks forward John Scott has been suspended by the NHL for four games without pay for punching Anaheim Ducks forward Tim Jackman, the league announced Wednesday.

Scott was banned for punching "an unsuspecting opponent and causing injury," according to a statement released by the NHL. The incident took place in Anaheim on Monday in the second period.

Under the collective bargaining agreement, Scott is considered a repeat offender and will forfeit $34,146.36 based on his annual salary. The money goes to the players' emergency assistance fund.

Scott has one goal and one assist in 15 games played this season.
