— -- Josh McCown will be joining the Cleveland Browns.

The veteran quarterback agreed late Friday afternoon to sign with the team. The deal is for three years, a source told ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

McCown, 35, went 1-10 as a starter last season in Tampa Bay before he was released this month. He started seven games the previous five seasons, and has played for the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders, Panthers, Bears and Bucs in a 12-year career.

McCown had visited the Bills, Jets and Bears as well as the Browns. He had been negotiating with the Browns and Bills.

McCown is the first step toward resolving an uncertain Browns quarterback situation.

Brian Hoyer is headed to free agency, and last year's first-round pick, Johnny Manziel, is in rehab.

McCown previously worked with new Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo in Oakland.
